Who is the ‘king of the hill’ on steam?

Steam has a metric ton of games that can be obtained through their storefronts, but which of these are on the throne?

Fellow ninjas, people, animated objects, pirates and things. I found myself wondering which games are the best sellers on the platform. Luckily for me and for us, Steam has predicted these type of questions and have set up their list of the top 100 games.

Steam doesn’t divulge any statistical information about the games on their list, but they do however place them into categories namely platinum, gold, silver and bronze. Since there are literally a 100 games I’m only going to have a quick look at the top 3 categories. Are you ready to be shocked, amazed and terrified? Good, so let’s get into it.

Platinum.

Platinum

Fallout 4, GTA 5, Dark souls 3, Total war: Warhammer, Tom Clansy’s the division, No man’s sky (sigh), Rocket league, The withcer 3, Civilization 6, Dota 2, Xcom2 and CS:GO.

Honestly, No surprises on this list, well at least not for me. These titles have gotten the media attention that many of them deserve and turned out to be very successful. NEXT!

Gold.

Gold

Doom, Call of Duty: Black ops 3, Rise of the tomb raider, Stellaris, Team fortress 2, ARK, stardew valley, Dead by daylight, Arma 3, Warframe, H1Z1: King of the kill.

The gold list had me raise a few eyebrows, ya’know. I didn’t expect titles like Dead by daylight or Stardew valley to feature in the gold list. I’m also quite surprised that Doom wasn’t part of the platinum list after making so many waves upon release and general praise.

Silver.

Silver

Payday 2, Civilization 5, Europa universalis 4, The elder scrolls 5: Skyrim, Smite, Farcry primal, hearts of iron4, Deus Ex: Mankind divided, Subnautica, Cities:Skylines, Watch dogs 2, Rust, Dying light, Planet coaster, War thunder, The elder scrolls online.

The games in the silver list is what it is, silver. I can see why people bought these games and I can also see that the titles pretty much belong in this spot as well. I can’t speak for every single game in the list, but what I have played, seen and read about, it seems justified. (Planet coaster, though?).

The bronze category contains many more titles and if you are interested you can find it on the list.

Do you agree with the consumer trends? Would you have liked to see people buy other games instead of the ones listed? Let me know in the comments!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this article and as always, have fun and game on!
